Methodology

What PayScope calculates—and what it doesn’t.

Clear assumptions matter more than pretending an estimate is exact.

01

Federal income tax

Uses 2026 federal marginal brackets and the standard deduction for the selected filing status. It does not calculate every tax credit or itemized deduction.

02

Payroll taxes

Estimates employee Social Security and Medicare taxes, including the 2026 Social Security wage cap and additional Medicare tax threshold.

03

State estimates

Supports simplified planning estimates for New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Florida. Local and city income taxes are not included.

04

Pre-tax deductions

401(k), health, HSA/FSA, and other pre-tax amounts reduce estimated federal taxable income. Actual payroll treatment can vary.
